UK: Nexo Geo-S line array loudspeakers and Camco amplifiers were among equipment specified for SSE London's first full installation following its acquisition of audio contract rental company Tarsin Entertainment last autumn. The venue - Vince Power Music Group's Bloomsbury Ballroom - was not without its challenges for the SSE team, reports PSN-e.

While the site's listed status demanded that considerable care be taken to conserve the fabric of the building, the occupation of the upper floors by fully operational offices meant that all drilling and other noisy installation work had to be done out of hours.

Ultimately, the SSE team - with input from consultant (and former Tarsin managing director) Peter Dyer - resolved upon a line array system based on Nexo Geo-S and powered by Camco amplifiers. Mixing is taken care of by a Midas Verona console with Square One outboard, while DJ equipment includes items from Allen & Heath and Pioneer.

In addition to the central art-deco ballroom area, the installation also covers a number of other bar areas and rooms with a mixture of wall-mounted and ceiling speakers. Moreover, while the specification is geared to cabaret style acts, there is the option to plug a more complex and extensive monitor set-up into the house line system.

"This was an ideal job for SSE as we could call upon the company's considerable expertise in the commissioning of line array systems," said Dyer. "SSE has worked very closely with Nexo for a number of years and knows exactly how to get the best out of their systems."
