UK: Sony's celebrated Oxford pro-audio business might be no more, but the company is continuing to release new pro-oriented products via its Basingstoke-headquartered Professional Services Europe operation. The latest development to emerge is a digital wireless microphone system that "can be seen as the next real step change in the world of wireless microphones", Sony PSE's Simon Beesley tells David Davies.
Debuted at this year's IBC exhibition, Sony Digital Wireless - to be made available in February - comprises the DWT-BO1 digital beltpack transmitter (D/62 and D/67 models), DWR-S01D digital wireless receiver and DWA-01D digital wireless adaptor. Described as the ideal solution for outside broadcast productions and ENG/EFP applications, the system combines 24-bit/48-kHz digital audio with a 106dB dynamic range and 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response.
The DWR-S01D receiver is billed as the world's first dual-channel slot in receiver for XDCAM MPEG HD 422 camcorder (PDW-700) and future camcorders, and delivers either AES3 digital or analogue audio signals. It features a two-channel interface for recorders and can also be rear-mounted to HDCAM, XDCAM, Digital Betacam and MPEG IMX camcorders using the DWA-01D adaptor.
The DWT-B01 body-pack transmitter supports either line or microphone input and, if required, can be controlled remotely using the DWR-S01D receiver. It offers a number of transmission power options and can utilise a host of AA battery types, including alkaline, lithium and NiMH.
