The Doors keyboardist (pictured) and the band’s engineer/producer, Bruce Botnick, are among those set to participate in AES Convention Platinum Events next month. The latest AES event, the 129th Convention, takes place in San Francisco from November 4-7 (conference) and 5-7 (exhibition).
To be moderated by Mr. Bonzai, the Platinum Artists/Producers panel will feature Manzarek and Botnick alongside Veronica Romeo, CJ Vanston, Corey Cunningham and KamranV. Artists’ expectations of producers and engineers, and the impact of laptop-based recording, are among the topics set to be covered. Mastering legend Bob Ludwig will moderate the Platinum Mastering panel, which will feature renowned engineer Doug Sax and vinyl guru Michael Fremer. Ludwig will screen archival videos about how lacquers are made and a clip revealing his process of cutting the vinyl master to Genesis's 1986 album, Invisible Touch.
Meanwhile, the Paul Verna-moderated Platinum Producers & Engineers session will explore the changing role of producers and engineers with contributions from Ross Hogarth (Lyle Lovett, John Mellencamp, Jewel), Joe Chiccarelli (Frank Zappa, My Morning Jacket, Counting Crows) and Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Mike Scott).
