New Dynaudio C3 mix room for Mystery Jets producer

A second room has been added to Dan Carey’s studio, featuring Dynaudio C3 monitors, and designed to replicate the acoustics of the first one as closely as possible.

Acoustic design company Munro Acoustics has been called upon to design a second room for producer Dan Carey (pictured), expanding his original studio installed by Munro in 2009. The system features a pair of Dynaudio C3A monitors, custom built by Munro with Dynaudio T1000 amplifiers and stands. Munro’s Phil Pyatt fine-tuned the speakers to Carey’s exact requirements and the acoustics of the room were designed to replicate his main room as closely as possible. “I like to record everything in the same room and the original room with the C3s is fantastic. However I am so busy that it is essential for me to be able to have another room where I can mix tracks which are recorded and ready, without upsetting the project in my main room. This has meant ensuring that the two rooms sound exactly the same so another pair of C3s, although extravagant, was vital.” Andy Munro commented: “The C3 was the first we designed as a hybrid active-passive system. It has the benefits of power and efficiency in the bass plus the smooth fidelity of a traditional, analogue mid-high crossover. It’s basically a mastering system but it is perfect for tracking and mixing as it has so much headroom. It is a very open sound so the acoustic space is important and that is why we tend to treat the room as well. It’s all about balance and I appreciate Dan’s comments about that.” Carey’s discography includes Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen, La Roux, and Christina Aguilera among many more. He is currently recording the latest Mystery Jets album. www.munro.co.ukwww.dynaudioacoustics.com
