UK manufacturer and distributor Unity Audio will be launching its latest offering at NAMM 2014 in the form of the active Pebble and Bam-Bam studio monitors (pictured). The Pebble contains a soft-dome tweeter, 5" woofer with two 180W OEM discrete amplifiers and custom crossover. It has similar features to previous Unity monitors, such as the internal cabinet aperiodic vent for extended low frequency range, found in the Avalanche subwoofer.
The Bam-Bam also features the vent and is the same dimensions as the Pebble, however it carries a 7” woofer instead. By using the Bam-Bam and Pebble together, the Pebble will be turned into a three-way system with an external bass woofer, reducing low-frequency cabinet resonance. Unity says: “The Bam-Bam is not a subwoofer but should be thought of as an expansion of The Pebble.” High profile artists including Queens of the Stone Age and Coldplay are already using Unity studio monitors. And while these new offerings may be named after Stone Age characters from the cartoon The Flintstones, Unity is hoping they will appeal to cutting-edge, amateur recording enthusiasts. The company says: ‘’These products will expand Unity Audio's market by making professional monitoring more affordable to home studio users and pros alike.” www.unityaudioproducts.co.uk
