Miloco Group to receive Grand Prix at Pro Sound Awards 2014

Facility and producer manager to be recognised at Ministry of Sound event next month

What started as a humble London recording studio 30 years ago has grown into a media group working with managers, producers, engineers, facilities online services and more. The Miloco Group will be declared the recipient of the second Grand Prix trophy at the Pro Sound Awards next month at the Ministry of Sound.

The Group was chosen as a worthy winner by the editors of Intent Media titles PSNEurope, Installation, Audio Pro International, Audio Media and TVBEurope.

“It is a huge honour for the Miloco Group to receive the Grand Prix Award for 2014,” says Miloco’s managing director Nick Young. “As a company we have consistently worked towards becoming a successful cooperative group that brings together great studios, talented producers and engineers and a variety of competitive services for the music industry. So for our efforts to be recognised by Intent Media makes everyone’s input worthwhile.”

In the three decades since Henry Crallan and Queen bassist John Deacon opened the first Miloco studio in East London, the company has flourished into worldwide cooperative of studios and Producers. In one of the recording industry’s most testing times they continue to develop a network of services and professionals who share the same common goal; to maintain a healthy industry in which the best talent is continually developed and where great studios remain open.

There is perhaps no better testament to this than the 2014 rebirth of The Church Studios in North London. Purchased by producer Paul Epworth and now managed by Miloco, the new era at The Church has introduced one of the most exciting new studio complexes in years. Alongside Miloco’s 2012 re-launch of Livingston Studios with producer Mike Crossey (a finalist in this year’s Pro Sound Awards), two legendary London facilities have now survived the threat of permanent closure and can look forward to many more years of making records.

A vital component to these major recent projects has been the Miloco Builds team who have reconstructed the likes of Livingston and The Church, as well as designing and building many other high-end commercial and private rooms. But away from these large-scale London launches, the activity at Miloco’s Bermondsey HQ and the hugely successful Assault & Battery studios (also a Pro Sound Awards 2014 finalist) which is run in partnership with Flood and Alan Moulder, this dynamic network has expanded further across the UK and the rest of the world. By continuing to partner with ambitious producers and studio owners, the Miloco Group has now reached 16 different countries and counting, meaning that the music industry’s choice of recording, mixing, mastering, writing and residential studios is more diverse than ever before.

Miloco continues to represent some of the best new and established producers and engineers across three different rosters. It has launched the Miloco Repairs and Miloco Gear pro audio specialist services; and they are pushing the boundaries of online samples libraries with the widely acclaimed Drumdrops drum samples store.

“Miloco would not be what it is today without the extremely hard work of all of our staff over the years, and of course our various partners from around the world who we proudly work with and represent,” says studio manager Siobhan Paine. “We could not be more grateful for the contributions they have made and continue to make towards the success of Miloco as a whole.

“Looking forward we are now hoping to bring so much more to the industry that we all love. Roll on the next 30 years…”

The Miloco Group will receive its trophy at the second Pro Sound Awards, to be held at the Ministry of Sound in London on 25 September. Fifteen other award winners from across the broad spectrum of pro audio will be revealed on the night. Recording engineer and acoustic consultant John Pellowe will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Headline sponsor for the event is Sennheiser – with a further big name co-sponsor to be announced next week. Further sponsorship is provided by Martin Audio and Sony. The charity partner for the evening is once again Nordoff Robbins.
