Singer/songwriter and former Fence Collective associate KT Tunstall has purchased an API 1608 recording console from KMR Audio for use in her new Berkshire home studio.

Now four albums (including 2007’s Drastic Fantastic and 2010’s Tiger Suit) into her career, Tunstall is currently in the midst of a world tour. Nonetheless, she has found some time to make use of the new desk, which is a Standard 1608 with 16 input channels (each with mic preamp and equalizer), eight main buses, eight auxiliary buses, one stereo bus, eight echo returns with main and stereo bus assign, full centre section control analogue metering, 5.1 centre section monitoring, comprehensive rear patch connections and eight 500 series slots. The desk also has two additional API 525 compressor modules and a custom-built stand.

“After looking at the alternatives, the API stood out as the modern version of a classic recording console, as well as being really popular with fellow musicians and producers,” said Tunstall. “It’s the perfect size for my live-room set-up; a simple, old-school feel desk. Beautiful, vibey, gorgeous sound, easy to get around, and looks amazing with all the lights off...”
