UK: Following an announcement revealing plans for the course at the NAMM show, certified Digidesign ICON mixer training has now got underway. 'Pro Tools 310I: Advanced ICON Mixing Techniques' offers hands-on ICON training and Digidesign ICON Mixer certification for sound professionals and audio engineering students, reports PSN-e.

The first European participant of the course was Scottish broadcaster STV, which recently installed ICON worksurfaces (specifically, one 32-fader D-Control and four D-Command worksurfaces) and Pro Tools|HD systems in all five of its new audio suites at its Pacific Quay in Glasgow. The company - whose suites have been used for work on TV series including Taggart and Rebus - chose Pro Tools over previous DAR Soundstation systems to maximise integration and share media with its Avid ISIS installation and seven Avid Video suites. Video integration is handled by Digidesign's AVoption|V10 in the main dubbing suites and Avid Mojo video peripherals in the smaller suites used primarily for track laying.

STV sent a core group of engineers to the three-day hands-on course, which is designed to cover all facets of working with ICON systems, including set-up and trouble-shooting, session management, editing, mixing and automation, custom faders and surround panning. The sessions are also intended to give an understanding of the practical applications of D-Control for both the music and post-production industries.

"The 'Advanced ICON Mixing Techniques' programme gave intensive training on the system with an opportunity to learn with the support of Digidesign specialists," commented STV's Bruce Adkins. "Our participation in the programme supports the huge investment in new technology that STV has made through the adoption of Pro Tools at the heart of our facility."

Certified ICON Mixer training is available directly from Digidesign and at selected official Digidesign Training Partner locations. Those wishing to obtain more information should email icontraining@digidesign.com.
