The iconic Maracanã stadium (pictured) in Rio de Janiero – originally built for the 1950 FIFA World Cup – will host many of the major matches of 2014's competition, including the final on 13 July, with audio managed by the stadium’s GLD digital mixer from Allen & Heath.
The Estádio do Maracanã was, until recently, was closed for a major, three-year renovation, and reopened last year with a GLD-80 mixer at the heart of an EV sound system. Fitted with a Dante network card, the mixer controls audio distribution around the entire stadium through fibre optic cables.
“The main reason we chose GLD was because of Allen & Heath’s fantastic sound quality, reliability and ease of use,” says Augusto Bergamim, sound manager and system programmer at the Maracanã.
The stadium will host four group games and next-round games, a quarter-final game and the final.
