B1 Maximum, one of Moscow’s top live music venues, recently underwent a major refurbishment and re-opened last month as A2, complete with a brand new JBL VerTec sound system. The venue dates back to the 1930s and was originally one of the Ordzhonikidze Moscow Machine-Tool Plant workshops. In 2006 B1 Maximum opened its doors for the first time as a live venue and played host to the likes of Iggy Pop, Franz Ferdinand and Sinead O’Connor; and on December 18th 2010, re-branded as A2, the popular nightspot opened its doors again - this time with a 3,000-capacity, a lobby and restaurant on the ground floor, a stage and dance floor on the first floor, and a VIP area above. The JBL PA system was installed by St. Petersburg headquartered rental company Euroshow and consists of two hangs of twelve VerTec VT4889 line array elements with eight VT4887 compact line array elements per side providing outfill; and twenty VT4880A arrayable subwoofers provide the low end. The whole rig is controlled by a BSS Omnidrive system and powered by Crown I-Tech amplifiers. David Scheirman, head of tour sound for Harman Professional, says VerTec was the perfect choice for A2 as it was designed specifically for that type of live concert setting; and since the installation, a number of acoustic problems within the venue have been ironed out, including its problematic concrete wall reflections. “When a production savvy event company like Euroshow focuses its attentions on the needs of a live performance venue like A2, it’s a win win situation for everyone involved,” says Scheirman. “And with the active Eastern European market now poised for substantial growth, it is especially good to see this popular Moscow music venue stepping up to such a high level of performance with VerTec line arrays.” American indie rock band Interpol will be the next act to perform at A2 in March. www.jblpro.comwww.harman.com
