Unity Audio has launched a new hire division catering to studio and live customers. Most products from Unity Audio’s distribution lines will be available to hire through the company, as well as through London-based FX Rentals and Tickle Music Hire. Speaking with PSNEurope, Unity Audio’s owner, Kevin Walker, commented: “I felt there was a missed opportunity. There’s a lot of equipment lying around not generating any money. It was an easy way of trying to add a different revenue stream to what we currently do in term of sales. Pretty much 90% of the gear we have, you can’t hire anywhere in the UK so it’s kind of unique, really.” Most of Unity Audio's current distribution lines will be available for hire including equipment by Burl Audio, Cartec Audio, Chandler Limited, Cloud, Earthworks, Elysia, Empirical Labs, Great River, Kush Audio, Little Labs, Telefunken, Tonelux, Thermionic Culture and of course the company’s own The Rock and The Boulder monitors. In the very near future, Walker said Unity Audio will be expanding into small PA systems, and beyond: “I’m interested in that kind of market and want to get into that more. We’ve already got some bookings for some local festivals next summer. So I better get a PA system together! We’ll start small on that and build that up. We might also get into location recording systems as well, and offer that as a service.” www.unityaudio.co.uk
