Local event specialist Clearwing Productions deployed both L-Acoustics and Outline loudspeaker systems, and DiGiCo consoles for Milwaukee’s Summerfest, recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest music festival for the past 15 consecutive years. Over 700 national and regional acts performed on 11 stages for this year’s festival, drawing more than 840,000 visitors over its 11-day run in late June and early July. According to Bryan Baumgardner, Clearwing audio operations/logistics manager, a total of 340 L-Acoustics loudspeakers were deployed for the event, with eight of Summerfest’s nine largest stages featured L-Acoustics systems. Five stages utilised K1 for the primary house arrays, while the Johnson Controls World Sound Stage was built around KARA and the Uline Warehouse featured V-DOSC. A new addition to Summerfest’s gear list this year was the use of L-Acoustics’ ARCS WIFO enclosures. At Jo Jo’s Martini Lounge, Clearwing vertically flew one ARCS FOCUS over two ARCS WIDE per side, which replaced two six-enclosure KIVA arrays used in years prior. “We’ve been using these systems at Summerfest for a long time now and they consistently prove themselves to be the right choice year after year,” said Bryan Baumgardner, audio operations and logistics, Clearwing Productions. At the Miller Lite Oasis Stage Clearwing chose an Outline GTO-based speaker system comprising nine GTO, one GTO-DF down fill and eight GTO-SUB subwoofer cabinets per side as the main FOH system, with four LIPF-082 Lip Fill cabinets used to even out coverage. It was the company’s first experience with the system: “We knew Outline was very good, but the system far exceeded our expectations and worked flawlessly,” said Baumgardner. The DiGiCo consoles included an SD5 at the BMO/Harris Pavilion FOH with an SD-Rack running over fiber; an SD10 at Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard Stage FOH with an SD-Rack running over fibre; an SD11 at the JoJo's Martini Lounge Stage FOH; and an SD8 at the Miller Lite Stage. An additional SD10 at the Marcus Amphitheater FOH was used for Pitbull “The DiGiCo consoles have performed this marathon of a festival flawlessly once again,” added Baumgardner. “With the newly added benefit SD-Convert software, the consoles are even more festival friendly.”
