QSC quota for AED Rent

International dry-hire specialist AED Rent is eyeing the mid-sized market with QSC’s KW and KLA series, following a number of other recent large investments, writes Marc Maes.

Following a substantial investment in KARA cabinets and Soundcraft consoles earlier this year (adding to the existing stock of 1,300 L-Acoustics V-DOSC and dV-DOSC line array speakers), AED Rent has stocked up on kit from QSC Audio’s ‘House of K’ division. “The V-DOSC and dV-DOSC are the Rolls-Royce of line array systems, but they have budgetary consequences in the rental business,” explains Alex Goemans, international PR manager with AED Rent. “With the QSC [inventory], we want to cater for the rental companies that want to supply a high-quality line array system at an affordable budget.” Goemans reckons that, with QSC currently not in demand for bigger outdoor festivals, the new addition to AED Rent’s portfolio will be the perfect solution for presentations, social and corporate events and parties – events requiring a good sound without the pressure of the demands of an international rider. “The 120 QSC KW 152 active speakers, 60 KLA tops and 60 KLA subs are an addition to our 200 JBL VRX series speakers – loyal to our intention to meet our clients’ demands we went for a smaller line array,” says Koen Conaerts, head of AED Rent’s sound division. “We actually didn’t have a very compact line array in our rental programme and QSC, because of its ‘lift, click and play’ approach and reliability combined with user-friendliness, was our best option.” Targeting the same middle niche of the rental business are the 20 new Soundcraft Si series compact digital consoles.

“You don’t really want to have a Midas 3000 desk on your company drinks night,” laughs Goemans. “Our policy is to provide the adequate material for the job, big or small – with the small footprint Soundcraft Si 24 and 16 we’re responding to the (budgetary and operational) requirements of an important client group. We took delivery of the sets in June and they have continuously been on the road since then.” Another market-inspired investment was the 150 L-Acoustics SB 28 subs; according to Pieter Verstraete, AED Rent account manager sound, clients constantly want more low – with an increasing demand for sub cabinets, the SB28 are welcomed as an addition to the already large inventory of S28 and SB218 sub speakers.

“Despite our efforts to keep pace with demand, even with 600 units available, we still sometimes face shortages in low cabinets,” Verstraete says. All of AED Rent’s new equipment is available from the company’s Belgian headquarters and in AED subsidiaries in the Netherlands, France, Germany and the UK.
