L-Acoustics K1 system chosen for Supertramp and Santana’s European tours to celebrate a combined 80 years in the business.

UK prog-rockers Supertramp and Mexican American guitar hero Carlos Santana (pictured) celebrated four decades each in the music business this year with respective European tours, and both opted for L-Acoustics K1 line source systems as their main PA.
The main system for Santana’s 21-date Universal Tone tour, which ran from September to October, was provided by German-headquartered satis&fy and included 14 K1 large format line source cabinets; three dV-DOSC per side as downfill; and six K1-SBs flown beside both arrays, all powered by LA-RAKs housing L-Acoustics LA8 amplified controllers. FOH engineer Robert Mailman says the K1 system ‘met and exceeded all of his expectations’ and that the satis&fy team provided ‘excellent tour support’. Supertramp’s 70-10 greatest hits tour was powered identically to Santana’s and included 24 K1 boxes; eight K1-SB subs; 36 V-DOSC and 12 dV-DOSC cabinets; 18 SB28 subs; and 115XT HiQs, the latter of which were used for stage monitoring. All the gear was provided by German rental company Sirius Showequipment, whose crew chief and system engineer Klaus ‘Bob’ Bolender found the K1 particularly straightforward to work with. Supertramp’s FOH engineer Karl Newton was pleased to find the K1 system had already been chosen for the tour when he got the call to mix the shows. “Supertramp was one of the first bands to go out with V-DOSC, and great sound is their prime objective when performing live,” explains Newton. “I love mixing on K1; it’s by far my favourite system now. The sound is precise, very linear; and the low and low mid, in my opinion, now beats any of the competition.” www.l-acoustics.comwww.satis-fy.comwww.siriusag.dewww.supertramp.comwww.santana.com
