An iLive iDR-48 MixRack and iLive-T112 Control Surface was on FOH and monitors duty at the recent music and sporting event Night Surf at Lusty Gaze in Newquay, Cornwall, which included headline performances from Reef and The Kooks. West Country rental firm Evosound Pro Audio provided everything audio for the event, which included a professional surfing contest during the day and a music event in the evening with a mix of local talent and well-known artists. Evosound’s managing director Mark Claxton says the iLive system is never in the warehouse as it’s always out on the road, and that it has continued to exceed customer expectations. “In my opinion, iLive has become an industry standard,” he insists. “And probably the most important thing about iLive at this event is that fact that two crew loaded two systems down 130 steps to the beach in wind and rain in only 20 minutes. You couldn’t manage that with many pro digital systems!” Reef’s monitor engineer Jamie Hickey was also complimentary of the system, and says because his show file was already loaded, he was able to line check just 10 minutes after arriving on site, using the iPad App. “iLive is a fantastic system for touring and install; its flexibility and compact size means you can do pretty much any show, anywhere and still have room to bring your favourite music stool,” he explains. “You can assign monitor mixes to different PFL outputs too, which isn’t a new concept, but the fact that iLive switches the PFL output automatically means that both listen wedge faders can stay at 0dB and you’ll only hear one at any time.” In other news, APR is using iLive at Glastonbury on the John Peel and West Holts stages, which will likely comprise an iLive-176 Control Surface on monitors and an iLive-144 at FOH position with iDR10 modular MixRack and iDR-64 MixRack. There will also be an iLive-R72 surface deployed for system management. www.allen-heath.com
