HK Audio will make musical history on 9 July 2016 by sponsoring and providing the PA system for a world record attempt featuring 10,000 performing musicians and 30,000 fans at Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Arena.
Wir füllen das Stadion (We’re Filling the Stadium) will see the world’s biggest-ever orchestra performing four pieces – excerpts from Dvorak’s Symphony №9 (New WorldSymphony); Beethoven’s Symphony №9, fourth movement (Ode to Joy); the title track from musical Starlight Express; and John Miles’s Music – conducted by Echo Award-winner Wolf Kerschek.
The previous record for the world’s largest orchestra was set in Brisbane in 2013, when 7,224 musicians gathered to play a medley of songs including Waltzing Matilda, Ode to Joy and Queen’s We Will Rock You in Suncorp Stadium.
“We’re proud to have secured such an acclaimed global music brand as HK Audio as our main sponsor,” says Patrik Meyer, managing director of the Commerzbank Arena (pictured). “It was crucial for us to have a partner that shares our enthusiasm for such an exciting project.”
The performance will use HK Audio’s COHEDRA compact line array.
Nicolas Petit, HK Audio’s chief marketing officer, says: “We’re delighted to be making history as part of this incredible event.
“We’re fascinated by the energy of great sound, and so we can’t wait to experience the sheer power an orchestra of 10,000 musicians can create! It’s going to be a blast…”
Jens Illemann, who instigated the project, adds: “Every note counts! Only by working together can we succeed in bringing this incredible record to Germany. To that end, every symphonic and wind orchestra, every professional and every ambitious amateur is more than welcome to come and play their part on the day.”
