VDC Trading are supplying the cable for a demanding audio set-up at the FINA World Championships aquatic sporting event in Budapest this week.
VDC, the main UK distributor of Van Damme cables, worked with Hungarian AV company GEM Rendezvenytechnikai KFT to provide an audio solution for the largest sporting event the country has ever hosted.
Welcoming almost 3,000 athletes over two weeks to compete in swimming, diving and water polo events, the championships kicked off with a two-hour opening ceremony on the Buda side of the Danube river.
GEM’s technical manager Krisztian Pinter said: “I have known VDC and the Van Damme brand for many years and have used the cables on much of our events and installation work with great success. We invested in more cable last year and will be doing the same this year as demand continues to grow.”
More than 500 dancers and artists took part in the opening ceremony, accompanied by a light and sound display feature underwater projections, lasers and a wide-reaching soundscape.
A fibre optic set-up was chosen to support a Nexo-based sound system and a 180sqm videowall. In total, 5.2km of fibre optical cable from Van Damme and Neutrik, and 600m of Van Damme’s TourCat cable, were installed for the event.
