The 51st edition of the international Jazz a Juan festival took place from July 12-14 at the idyllic location of Antibes Juan-les-Pins in the south of France this year. At FOH position sat a DiGiCo SD Ten, which catered for some legendary jazz players including Herbie Hancock, BB King and Santana. The long-running event is organised by Jean-Rene Palacio, artistic director of the Societe des Bains de Mer (SBM), based in the principality of Monaco – also the organiser of the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, which DiGiCo has sponsored for the past four years. As with Monte-Carlo, Arpege Son Lumiere was the sales and rental company of choice, whose co-owner, Philippe Barguirdjian (pictured right), knew exactly what specification Palacio required. This year, DiGiCo SD Tens were used at FOH and monitor positions. “Jazz a Juan is one of the oldest and best jazz festivals there is, so we wanted to use one of the best consoles on the market,” says FOH engineer Alain Courieux (pictured left), who also works FOH for Jean Michel Jarre. “I have been using DiGiCo consoles for the past seven or eight years, and the SD7 is the only console I know of where I can use over 180 channels. This experience with the SD7 meant we were sure the SD Ten would have exactly what we need for Jazz a Juan.” www.digico.biz
