D.A.S. Audio, Spain’s largest audio manufacturing company, was founded in 1971 by engineer Juan Alberola, and has since evolved into a global leader of sound reinforcement offering a collection of products and solutions targeted at rental companies, contractors and even the working musician. International marketing director Robert Giner has been at the firm since 1987 and says his freedom to grow personally and professionally has kept him at D.A.S project after project. “There are others at D.A.S that have been here even longer than me; and I think in this business it really is an achievement to be celebrating out 40th Anniversary,” explains Giner. “Our success is attributable to Juan Alberola’s vision in recognising from the beginning that growth was limited in the Spanish market. If we wanted to be someone in audio, we needed to have an international focus - so early on, we were exporting.” Giner says many other Spanish manufacturers attempted to do the same thing, but in his opinion ‘rather timidly’; and therefore have suffered with the Spanish market’s recurrent cycles of ups and downs. D.A.S, on the flip side, was distributing worldwide as far back as the 1990s; and 2011 also marks D.A.S’s US subsidiary company’s (Audio of America) fifteenth year, making it one of the very few European sound reinforcement manufacturers with a significant presence in North America. Some of the best-selling products in the company’s range include the Aero and Aero Series 2, which Giner says have ‘had a stellar run’. “A lot of these sound rental companies entered the rental business with our Aero products; and we watched them grow, expand and upgrade to Aero Series 2,” says Giner. “It’s rewarding to see such loyalty in so many countries. More than clients, they have become friends; and it’s really thanks to them that forty years later we can still talk about D.A.S!”
D.A.S Audio will be hosting a special 40th Anniversary party at this year’s ProLight+Sound in Frankfurt next month. www.dasaudio.com
