Sound designer Marc Luyckx and FOH operator Guido Olischlager opted for the kit for a production of Monty Python’s Spamalot, which ran from 25 April-3 March. “It was a unique opportunity to use the new Coda system for Spamalot – Belgian distributor Apex also invited clients to the demonstration,” explains Luyckx. The configuration for the production consisted of 14 Coda LA8 and three subs per side, plus a centre cluster of four LA4 enclosures – the console was a DiGiCo D5. What struck Luyckx most was Coda’s approach to the physical time-alignment of the LA8’s drivers. “Most components in line array enclosures are electronically time aligned – the LA8’s components are placed in a way they reach your ear simultaneously, without delay,” he says. “This resulted in a remarkable sound quality – the sound on the balconies was equal to the sound at the front seats, making the line array effect really work.” Jeroen Sierjacobs, marketing manager at Apex adds: “It was the perfect occasion for us to show the real dispersion quality of the Coda line array systems. The LA8 line array is capable of working in both passive and biamp mode.” www.codaaudio.com
