NAMM 2020: Vochlea Music to debut real-time vocal MIDI controller

“Dubler Studio Kit unlocks musical expression, fuels creativity and is a lot of fun," said Vochlea's CEO and co-founder, George Wright

Following an overfunded Kickstarter campaign in mid-2019, London-based pro sound/music technology start-up Vochlea Music will debut its new real-time vocal MIDI controller, Dubler Studio Kit, to the US at NAMM 2020.

Vochlea partnered with Abbey Road Red’s Incubation programme to develop the product.

Its technology is designed to capture the nuance and expressive power of the voice for music production, offering an interesting alternative to traditional desk-bound MIDI controllers.

Novelist using the Dubler Studio Kit

Dubler Studio Kit allows you to intuitively hum a synth pattern, beatbox to trigger a virtual drumkit, or manipulate effects and filters with a “hmmm”, “laaaa” or “oohhh” sound— all in realtime, and straight into your DAW. The technology is built upon the idea that the most natural and instinctive way for a musician to communicate an idea for a soundscape, melody or beat is by using the voice.

“Dubler Studio Kit unlocks musical expression, fuels creativity and is a lot of fun. It speeds up the traditional music creation workflow by allowing the user to control and manipulate MIDI outputs through vocal inputs. This means you can lay down melodies, drum loops, effects tracks… whatever you want, directly from voice to DAW,” said George Wright, Vochlea Music CEO and co-founder.

Coming as a two-part kit, users receive the Dubler software, a virtual MIDI instrument for Mac and PC that’s compatible with any DAW, and the Dubler pro sound microphone — a custom low-latency USB mic, tuned for the Dubler software.

The Dubler Studio Kit is currently priced at £250.
