Shure SM63

What is it?A series of high-output, omnidirectional directional microphones for broadcast and recording applications.
DetailsThere are currently three models in the SM63 range differing in length and colour. The 14.5cm SM63 is designed for handheld use on stage and in broadcast, recording and television studios. The 23cm SM63L and SM63LB models are suitable for remote interviews, sports broadcast and other situations where longer microphones are desirable. The 80Hz – 20kHz frequency response of all three models in the range is tailored for optimum speech intelligibility and includes a controlled low-frequency roll-off for reduced pick-up of stand and wind noise. Sensitivity is quoted as: -56.5dBV/Pa; 1.5mV/Pa (1kHz). A built-in humbucking coil makes the microphones virtually immune to strong hum fields, such as those produced by studio lighting. All three models use Shure’s patented shock mount system to minimise handling noise together with a Vera-Flex grille that protects against damage from a drop of up to 2m and is said to be impervious to dents, rust, corrosion and moisture. An integral pop filter is also included to reduce breath noise and plosive sounds and for SM63L and SM63LB – the models suitable for outdoor use – a two-stage windscreen accessory is available.
