The MD 21-U is an omnidirectional design offering a “uniform” 40Hz – 18kHz frequency response at a no-load, 1kHz sensitivity of 1.8mV/Pa (+/- 2.5dB). Nominal impedance is 200 ohms. The mic’s “rugged” all-metal body is said to be extremely insensitive to handling noise and also to pop and wind noise – though an external foam windshield – the MZW 421 – is available as an accessory. Finished in black, the microphone incorporates a refined steel sound inlet basket and an integral mounting clamp thread. A further option is a metal table stand – the MZT 100 – with a soft rubberised surround said to offer good suppression of structure-borne noise as well as offering excellent stability.
