Royal tribute for queen of soul

A special Dusty Springfield tribute concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support will be held at London’s Royal Albert Hall next week, writes Paul Watson

Orbital Promotions Ltd will host a one-off Dusty Springfield tribute concert at RAH to tie in with Macmillan Cancer Support’s centenary celebration on Friday May 6th. ‘Profesor of pop’ Paul Gambaccini will host the event, which will be held in honour of Dusty Springfield, the English soul queen, who lost her battle with cancer in 1999 aged just 59; and will include performances from Boy George, Mica Paris, Rick Astley, Mike Hurst, and The Springfields, with all proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support. “Macmillan Cancer Support is proud to be associated with the Dusty Springfield tribute evening which is part of Macmillan’s year-long celebration to mark Macmillan’s centenary,” says Amanda Bringans, director of Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising. “The profits from the event and your generous contributions will help the millions of people in the UK that, like Dusty, have been affected by cancer.” The Meyer Sound PA system, supplied by Canegreen, will comprise 20 MILO and 2 MILO 120, 32 MICA, and six 700HP subwoofers; and FOH and monitor consoles will be an Avid Profile and Soundcraft Vi6 respectively. A collection of Shure, AKG, Sennheiser, DPA, and Audio-Technica microphones will be utilised on stage.
