Outline GTO goes global

Two major international rental companies have chosen Outline’s GTO as their new large format line array, writes Paul Watson

Colorado headquartered PA provider Dowlen Sound and UK rental company Britannia Row have both embraced Outline’s GTO pilot programme, putting the system to the test at Denver’s Mile High Music Festival and on Peter Gabriel’s New Blood tour respectively. The speaker system was used for the first time in August 2010 at Mile High Music Festival, Colorado’s largest music festival, to kick off the Outline GTO early adopter’s pilot program; and was deployed by Britannia Row for the last leg of Peter Gabriel’s New Blood tour (pictured) in October. Outline says that as well as being a light box (95.5kg including integrated flying hardware), one of the main advantages of GTO is its ability to provide the highest SPL level of any speaker in its class using its abundance of drivers: ten in total, comprising of two slot-loaded neodymium 15” woofers; four neodymium midrange 8” drivers; and four 3” high frequency compression drivers, all mounted to its proprietary DRPWG waveguide. Dowlen’s sales executive and director of operations at Mile High festival Eric Satre says the GTO has established Outline as one of the top players in the large format line array market; and Dowlen’s president Bret Dowlen agrees. “The GTO has output the likes of which we have never experienced before, especially under harsh conditions,” explains Dowlen. “We have since used the GTO multiple times at Red Rocks, large arenas and theatres, all with excellent results; and we are very excited about the future of Outline.” Britannia Row’s Bryan Grant was also suitably impressed, and says the Peter Gabriel show was a perfect proving ground for the GTO. “The system faithfully reproduced the complex orchestral arrangements of Peter Gabriel’s work in a variety of venues of different sizes and configurations,” insists Grant. “Having had several years of experience already with Outline product, notably the Butterfly line array, we were confident that the Outline team would deliver a great new product, which they indeed did.”
