More resources for PRG

PRG annouces the aquisition of German company Showtec Beleuchtungs just a year after acquiring Procon and four months after taking on EML, writes Marc Maes

One year after New York-based Production Resource Group acquired Procon (formerly known as ETF Event Engineering) and less than four months after the US supplier of entertainment services bought Belgian EML Productions, PRG has announced the acquisition of German company Showtec Beleuchtungs.
Earlier this year, PRG bought First Events bvba, a holding which includes EML Productions in Belgium, EML Productions Holland bv and Sound & Light Productions SL in Spain. The acquisition was effected through MEL Holding bvba, a subsidiary of PRG.
EML was founded in 1979 and made its reputation as an innovative sound and light rental company for tours and festivals. For PRG, the acquisition boosts the company’s presence in Europe while reinforcing their activities in Belgium (where they also own rental company Ecran Total Fréquence), said PRG chairman and CO Jeremiah Harris. EML Productions’ recent projects include the launch of the new Skoda in Prague (EML supplied sound, PRG the lighting), and the 50 years independence celebration of Kuwait.
“For the Paris fashion shows of Chanel and Miu the production is an intensive collaboration between EML and PRG,” comments Philip Wilkin, financial controller at EML. “A further project is the Pope’s visit to Madrid in August, with 2.5 million people expected.” Showtec, based in Cologne, is a leading supplier of lighting and audio for concert tours, public and corporate events and television productions. With subsidiaries in Berlin and Munich it has been supplying lighting and audio in Germany and throughout Europe for German companies – Showtec has been the audio and lighting company for the Rock am Ring festival.
With an inventory of Meyer speaker systems, DiGiCo, Midas, Soundcraft and Yamaha consoles, audio rental accounts for some 10% of the company’s business today.
“We’re very busy in the trade fair segment all over Europe these days,” explains Showtec marketing manager Daniel Deckers. “Most of the festivals and tours are still under negotiation.”
Showtec will remain under the management of CEO’s Wilfried Schiefer and Ralf Richrath. “This was a logical step for us,” commented Schiefer. “Both Showtec and PRG are committed to provide integrated services (audio, video, lighting) to our clients on a global basis. Our clients will now benefit from the depth of our combined inventories, including the many innovative PRG products, and the wide geographic reach of PRG.” Both EML Productions and Showtec will continue to operate under their own brand names.
