Major Italian, Scandinavian system sales for Martin Audio’s MLA

Italy’s All Access and Denmark-based ETP (European Tour Production) have purchased 72- and 36-box Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array (MLA) systems, respectively.

Italy’s All Access and Denmark-based ETP (European Tour Production) have purchased 72- and 36-box Multi-cellular Loudspeaker Array (MLA) systems, respectively.

All Access s.r.l is a new joint venture between three of Italy’s leading audio, lighting and staging rental companies: Fumasoli Service from Aosta (Valle D’Aosta), Electra Service s.n.c. from Mantova (Lombardia) and Amandla Production s.a.s. (Lucca Toscana).

The notion to form the new operation took root during a demo of the MLA organised by Italian Martin Audio distributor Audiosales s.r.l. All three companies are long-term Martin Audio system users and, collectively, have placed an initial order for 72 enclosures, comprising two complete systems and a total of 44 MLA elements, four MLD downfills and 24 MLX subs.

A scalable rig will make its debut on an imminent arena tour by prominent Italian rock band Subsonica.

Audiosales’ Stefano Rocchi – who helped to highlight the synergies between the three companies – commented: “This investment will enable All Access to be competitive on the national and international touring scene for at least the next ten years, offering the possibility to expose this prestigious system both to colleagues in the market and to the audiences that will attend the shows. It will also enable its customers to exploit all the revolutionary potential of this new system, which is based on a highly innovative technology.”

Meanwhile, in Copenhagen, ETP (European Tour Production) has purchased a 36-box MLA system. In addition to enabling the company to provide sound for Denmark’s largest venues, the acquisition helps to pave the way for a ‘Scandinavian Gear Pool’ – an idea first suggested by Øystein Wierli from em nordic/Englund Musik when Norwegian rental company Rubicon AS purchased its own similar rig (comprising 20 MLA top boxes, 12 MLX subs, and four MLD Downfill enclosures) last November.

The two companies had a long history of cooperation prior to the new ‘gentleman’s arrangement’. “By helping each other out and working together we are able to be create more opportunities for both companies and pull on our good strengths together,” said ETP director Flemming Pedersen.

“It is mostly coincidence that we tend to like the same brands and equipment, and since Øystein Wierli is a mutual friend he has been an important influence in our choice of equipment.”

In time, the ‘pool’ will involve other equipment. For now, all parties are focusing on the strengths of the MLA system, which Pedersen first encountered at Prolight + Sound 2010.

“It was simple in my book,” he said of the decision to purchase an MLA spec. “There are a lot of fine systems out there but MLA is simply in a class of its own. There is MLA, and then there are all the others.”

ETP’s system will make its debut with Kaizer’s Orchestra, although the largest date on that tour will be at Oslo’s Spektrum Arena, where both ETP’s and Rubicon’s systems will see service. Indeed, production for this event will be based entirely around Martin Audio speaker systems, including PA, outfills and monitoring.
