Mackie’s onside wireless control at Welford Road Stadium

Leceister-based Shine Systems has installed a Mackie DL1608 compact console at the home of England’s most successful rugby club.

Leicester-based installer Shine Systems has chosen a Mackie DL1608 for the local 24,000-capacity Welford Road Stadium, home of the most successful English rugby club, the Leicester Tigers. The compact 16-channel DL1608 was introduced in January of this year at Winter NAMM, and features wireless iPad control. It began shipping in August, just prior to Mackie launching its new DLM line of compact loudspeakers. “The DL1608 was used to play music before/after the match and at half-time (both from the iPad and from a Macbook Air running Traktor), together with playing pre-recorded announcements and to control the match announcer microphones,” said director of Shine Systems and audio engineer for Welford stadium, Phil Taylor. The stadium, the largest purpose-built club rugby union ground in England, is divided into 17 discrete zones and features a robust wireless network. “I was also able to walk round the ground during the pre-match build-up with just my iPad and adjust levels as required using the ground-wide wireless network,” added Taylor. “I would usually use a larger-format digital console for this, but I am confident that the DL1608 will have sufficient features and inputs (and it is certainly easier to carry!).”
