Lawo holds anniversary event, user meetings

Around 350 guests gathered in Rastatt, Germany, to mark four decades of the audio manufacturer, whose latest innovations include the sapphire console, pictured, which was introduced at IBC 2010.

The console giant celebrated its 40th year in business during a recent ceremony held at Badner Hall in Rastatt, Germany. Around 350 guests gathered to mark four decades of the audio manufacturer, whose latest innovations include the sapphire console (pictured), which was introduced at IBC 2010.

In a series of presentations, senior Lawo figures past and present discussed the development of the company with relation to the evolution of the broadcast sector and networking technology. Former head of TV operations and deputy head of production Gerd Grunwald emphasised the importance of a responsible approach to business partners and customers, saying that via founder Peter Lawo he had “learned that a company can be very successful in a competitive environment without losing dependability and humane respect for the customer.”

Current CEO Philipp Lawo, meanwhile, addressed the R&D process, and discussed the development of specific breakthrough products, including the mc console.

Following the speeches, there were a number of musical performances, including a set by the Lawo Band, who performed pieces by German jazz legend Klaus Doldinger.

Rastatt also recently paid host to several other Lawo events – specifically, the 5th International mc² User Meeting, the Lawo Partner Training 2010 and the 1st International Innovason User and partner Meeting. The sessions gave participants the opportunity to hear presentations on the latest software releases and get hands-on experience with new features like the AMBIT Upmix and Lawo iPhone Remote App. There was also a presentation about the new RAVENNA technology, a lecture on an Innovason Eclipse-based digital workflow, and a report about the use of the Lawo equipment during a variety of recent sporting events.
