L-Acoustics rocks the Volga in Russia

Russia’s leading PA rental company The Live Sound Agency deployed its L-Acoustics K1 WST line source system at Rock on the Volga festival in Samara, writes Paul Watson.

An L-Acoustics K1 WST line source system was at the helm at Rock on the Volga, Europe’s biggest one-day festival, which took place in the city of Samara in Russia on June 12th – Russia Day. Now in its third year, the free-festival, which is supported by the local government, attracted a massive 220,000 people. This year’s line-up included a string of international acts including Finnish singer Tarja Turunen, Russian artists Aquarium, Kipelov and Peter Mamonov; and UK rock band Skunk Anansie, who reformed in 2009 after almost a decade of obscurity. Russian PA rental company The Live Sound Agency deployed two hangs of 16 K1 cabinets with two hangs of eight K1s for outfill; and two further hangs of six K1-SB subwoofers per side flown behind the K1s. Another 16 per side SB28 subs were also groundstacked beneath the K1 system; and six delay towers each held six V-DOSC cabinets. The Live Sound Agency’s engineer Vitaly Grinevich says the configuration provided optimum sound to the massive audience across the festival’s vast site. Monitoring on stage consisted of 18115XT HiQ active stage monitors with two SB28 subs, and three ARCS cabinets per side provided the infill.
