UK: Alphabeat monitor engineer Ben Booker (pictured) and SSE Audio Group were among the many other winners, reports PSN-e. The TPi Awards 2009 took place at London’s Grosvenor House on February 9. Presented by comedian and presenter Phill Jupitus, the event was dedicated to late BRIT Awards production director Mick Kluczysnki.
In total, 30 awards were presented to individuals and companies voted for by readers of TPi (Total Production International) magazine. Among the many winners were Kylie’s X2008 Tour (Live Production of the Year), Westfalen Sound (Favourite International Production Company), Jon Lemon (Front-of-House Engineer), Huw ‘Sid’ Pryce (Backline Technician), Manchester Evening News Arena (Favourite Venue) and Live Nation COO John Probyn (Editor’s Award).
The Midas-sponsored Favourite Sound Rental Company category was presented by the console manufacturer’s sales and marketing director, David Cooper, to SSE Audio Group. Meanwhile, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented by Bill Wyman and Karl Christmas (from category sponsor Yamaha Commercial Audio) to Claude Nobs, who founded the Montreux Jazz Festival 42 years ago and remains a driving force behind the event.
There was also an honour for Ben Booker, who was named Monitor Engineer of the Year. Booker’s credits include the Scissor Sisters and Alphabeat, whose 2008 Allen & Heath iLive-based UK tour was profiled in a recent PSNE feature (read here).
