ISE 2013: Harman launches new Crown DriveCore Install amps

Crown’s latest range of power amplifiers is a direct replacement for the CTS series. Elsewhere at ISE, Harman’s Soundcraft is exhibiting its new Si Expression range of audio mixers.

Harman Professional’s Crown Audio is launching its new DriveCore Install range of power amplifiers at ISE 2013. DriveCore Install is Crown’s latest range of power amplifiers – a direct replacement for the company’s CTS series. The company is offering 6 2U models ranging between 300W and 600W and 2-, 4-, and 8-channel configurations; and each of the amps is also available as a networked version. They also boast Crown’s proprietary DriveCore technology, and include a power factor correctness power supply, which is said to draw very little from the mains. “They’re very efficient amplifiers and also a really dramatic improvement in terms of reliability,” said Crown director of engineering and marketing, Marc Kellom. “They are all bridgeable and capable of driving a 100V distributed system directly without a transformer and without bridging; it really is a compelling set of features.” In related Harman Professional news, Soundcraft is exhibiting its new Si Expression range of cost-effective audio mixers. Designed to suit multiple markets, from small school or theatre installations upwards, Soundcraft’s senior marketing manager, Dave Neal (left) believes the series “widen our user base significantly. They are very powerful for the size of console because of all the DSP. There is about 200 rack units worth of processing in this,” including a full Lexicon effects engine. The three models (which start at about £3,000) offer 16, 24 and 32 fader and mic inputs and are designed to be easy to use and very flexible, with assignable fader layers, which are particularly useful as you can set it up so the main presenter is always on the same fader whatever layer you choose. All models can have 66 inputs to mix by connecting any Soundcraft stagebox, including the two new Mini Stagebox 16 and 32 (16×8 and 32×16) models, which link to the console via MADI.
