IOSONO’s 3D sound technology was used for the premiere of Korngold’s opera Die tote Stadt to stream the orchestra into the theatre at the Sydney Opera House from a neighbouring studio. The world’s first 3D opera, also using IOSONO technology, premiered in February of this year. The physically absent musicians were recreated using IOSONO’s audio processor and the d&b loudspeakers installed in the Opera Theatre. The technology is based on the principles of wave field synthesis, which synthesizes sound in space using a large quantity of individually driven speakers to create wave fronts anywhere in a space.
