Electro-Voice on tour with Enrico

Enrico Brignano’s three-hour show combined cabaret, comedy and an 18-piece orchestra, for which Backstage PA chose an XLVC line array to maximize intelligibility and sound quality.

Backstage PA, based in Mariano Comense, supplied an Electro-Voice system for Italian superstar Enrico Brignano’s recent tour if Italy. The multitalented artist’s latest show, Tutto suo padre (Like his father) combined cabaret, comedy, and music by an 18-piece orchestra. The show required a PA that could provide both a high level of intelligibility as well as high-end concert sound. “The biggest challenge on this tour was without question the need for optimal intelligibility, as Enrico Brignano is a gifted speaker,” said Backstage PAs MD Pino di Costanzo. “This means it is imperative that everyone in the audience, regardless of where they may be sitting, is capable of understanding every word. Otherwise for them the show would lose much of its appeal.” The XLVC line array comprised 32 flown XLD enclosures as the main PA, 24 XLD elements for side fill and 12 XLE elements on front fill. Electro-Voice Xsubs in a Bessel array configuration provided the low-end. 18 Electro-Voice CP3000S and six CP4000S amplifiers, controlled by six Electro-Voice Dx46 and two Electro-Voice DC One sound system processors, delivered system power. “XLD elements are versatile, offer a very high level of intelligibility and at the same time powerful music reproduction. Furthermore the entire line array is so compact that you hardly even notice it,” said di Costanzo, his first time using the XLVC system for such a large stage production. “We have not been obliged to make any compromises in terms of audio quality; the level of intelligibility is top notch. Furthermore the sound system was visually so unobtrusive that some people went as far as to ask us where we’ve hidden the PA!”
