Busy times for LipSync

In the wake of an MBO and success with films including Made In Dagenham, LipSync Productions has confirmed its involvement with two more eagerly-awaited period movies: The Deep Blue Sea and My Week With Marilyn.

Days after announcing an MBO by two of its directors, LipSync Productions has confirmed its involvement with two more eagerly-awaited period films: The Deep Blue Sea and My Week With Marilyn.

Made In Dagenham (pictured) and Nowhere Boy are among the recent credits for the London-based post house, which recently embarked upon a new phase after directors Peter Hampden and Norman Merry completed an MBO from co-founder Jon Diamond, who has left to develop a new company entitled Box Clever TV (read PSN-e’s previous coverage here).

Of the two new projects, The Deep Blue Sea (Film 4, UK Film Council) is an adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s celebrated play and will star Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell Beale. My Week With Marilyn (The Weinstein Company, BBC Films, Trademark Films, UK Film Council), starring Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh, will document the interaction between Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of 1957 movie The Prince and the Showgirl – the script for which, coincidentally, was also penned by Rattigan.

LipSync’s post-production division will provide full post on both projects, including VFX and audio. By being involved at the production stage, the post teams can offer advice on how to get the most from the films’ budgets in order to achieve the directors’ visions.

Speaking to PSN-e, LipSync MD Peter Hampden depicted a company enjoying one of its most dynamic periods in recent times, with advanced plans for expansion in 2011.

“LipSync has a number of projects in post-production and others to look forward to next year which, taken together, give us our busiest order book for many years,” he says. “We believe this has come about as a result of our growing reputation with producers, directors and financiers to deliver high quality, on time and on budget. Large investments were made during 2010 to add to and update LipSync’s Pro Tools systems, double the I/O capacity of its AMS DFC desks, and install HD projectors in all theatres. To cope with the increased volume of work we are actively looking to increase our feature film mixing capacity, and we will also replace the AMS Libra desk in our TV Drama theatre next year.”

LipSync will also expand its VFX and DI departments during 2011. The company is currently recruiting for compositors and 3D artists to join its vfx team, and has recently increased the number of seats and trebled its render capacity. For DI, LipSync has Quantel Pablo systems already in place for 3D grading, and has scheduled projector and additional storage upgrades for 2011.
