Bootsy keeping dah funk alive

Funk bass legend Bootsy Collins, perhaps best-known for his long association with George Clinton, and rapper Snoop Dogg have both purchased new mics from Telefunken Elektroakustik.

Funk bass legend Bootsy Collins (pictured here with Snoop Dogg) has purchased a full range of new mics from Telefunken Elektroakustik. As a result, Collins now has a matched pair of large diaphragm AK-47 tube mics, a matched pair of ELA M260 small diaphragm mics and a pair of M80 dynamic mics at his disposal. Best-known for his long associations with late funk godfather James Brown and Parliament/Funkadelic, Collins is currently working on a Brown tribute album at Boot Cave studios. Snoop Dogg – who is contributing to the sessions – has also added a further AK-47 to his collection, which already includes two of the fixtures as well as two M-16 MkIIs and three ELA M 260s. “For those of you that are a little unsure about the M80 mic by Telefunken,” says Collins, memorably, “well, I am about to funk you up with this rap. The name is right and it is James Brown tight, it is the Bomb, an easy win in any fight, yeah the M-80 that be the One. Don’t take my word for it, check it out and see how you explode by using it. Go to your nearest funky music shop and demand the Bomb, but be ye forewarned – it is highly explosive!” Collins – who describes the M80 as “the best mic I have ever heard on my voice” – is also at work on a new solo album project. Telefunken Elektroakustik’s director of operations, Alan Veniscofsky, tells PSN-e: “It is truly gratifying that Bootsy and Snoop have chosen such a wide-ranging arsenal of Telefunken microphones. We’ve worked very hard to research, design and manufacture our mics. These masters of the funk genre are now bringing our audio contributions to a vast new listening audience.”
