Billy Idol’s band choose AKG wireless

Both guitarists on Billy Idol’s international tour have invested in AKG’s DSR700 digital wireless system, writes Paul Watson

After reviewing three sets of wireless systems on tour, Billy Idol’s guitarists Steve Stevens and Billy Morrison decided that AKG’s DSR700 ticked all the right boxes. One of the problems both musicians kept finding when testing other wireless systems was the constant dropping out in sound, however AKG’s DSR700s stayed the most true, providing a clear and powerful sound without any drop out. After Stevens read about the product, the wireless system was demoed to band members by AKG/JBL’s Joseph Wagoner; and when comparing the AKG product to those he previously toured with, says the difference is ‘like night and day’. “I am still shocked as to just how much difference the DRS700 wireless system makes to our tone,” says Stevens, “both throughout the crowd fill and on stage.” Morrison says his riffs come alive in his IEMs; and that the body, warmth and tone are reminiscent of the sound generated when running the instrument through a cable. “When I took my ears out and walked into the house, it sounded bigger than anything else I’ve used,” insists Morrisson. “AKG’s features are easy to use and set up; and pairing that with a wireless system that doesn’t drop out and sounds huge, you really can’t ask for anything more.” Wagoner believes that both musicians’ approval of the DRS700 system reinforces the deep history of AKG’s performance and reliability: “With an active roster of worldwide performers and amateurs alike, AKG’s reputation as a leader in the live sound setting continues to thrive.”
