The venue triumphed in the Best Venue Teamwork – Major Club category during the LIVE UK Music Business Awards, held at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, London, last week.
Restored by Academy Music Group in October 2005, O2 Academy Newcastle offers a capacity of 2,050 and hosts more than 200 major gigs and 100 club nights each year.
General manager Paul Twynham commented: “The North East has a traditionally ‘up for it crowd’ and over the last five years, we’ve stamped our mark as the leading live venue. Newcastle has a vibrant music scene, great gigs from the biggest touring artists and a healthy club trade, so we’re delighted to be recognised by the industry with this award.”
Academy Music Group’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, was also nominated in the Best Venue Teamwork Theatre/Concert category.
