Audio Precision opens UK office

Audio Precision’s new UK office is located in Cambridgeshire and will seek to drive sales for products including the APx525 audio analyser with ultra-high bandwidth option and digital serial I/O.

AP has taken the decision to go direct in the UK and Ireland – a move facilitated by a new office under the leadership of audio test engineer James Kelly, writes David Davies. Audio Precision says that, as a result of the changes, customers in the UK and Ireland will see the immediate benefits of lower prices and faster access.

Audio Precision UK will be led by British test and measurement engineer James Kelly, who has more than 20 years’ experience of designing custom audio test solutions and has worked for companies including ARCAM, TAG McLaren and International Audio Group (IAG). In addition to driving new UK sales, Kelly will be responsible for supporting existing UK-based customers and developing test solutions for them if required.

“AP has a very loyal user base in the UK and Ireland,” commented Dave Schmoldt, president of Audio Precision. “This move will put AP’s technical expertise just a phone call away from our customers, and by selling direct we’re able to reduce prices: for example, we can price our new APx515 production test audio analyser at well under £4,000.”

“James’s experience in designing test workflows using our hardware will be invaluable to us,” said Daniel Knighten, Audio Precision v-p of Products and Sales, “as will his detailed experience of dealing with production line test in China. That’s a very important market for us now, particularly with the launch of the APx515.”

Considering the priority products for the new operation, James Kelly (pictured) tells PSN-e: “Because of the focus on chip design and their general need for high-end performance, UK audio engineers should be most interested in the APx525 audio analyser with the ultra-high bandwidth option and digital serial I/O, or the 2700 Series with the PSIA. Although we’ve been pleasantly surprised to see that people are also looking at our new APx515 production test audio analyser for some basic R&D applications where they don’t need the connectivity options or the extra 5-10 dB of performance that the 525 and 2700 offer.”

+ Audio Precision has just started shipped the first units of its new APx515 production test audio analyzer along with version 2.6 of its APx500 audio analyzer software. The APx515 was first announced in May 2010 at the AES Europe tradeshow. The company says pre-shipment orders have exceeded all of AP’s previous new model introductions.
