Alchemy’s Royal engagement

Alchemy Mastering will master two specialist formats of the ‘official’ Royal Wedding recording for the event's official album

Alchemy Mastering has been engaged by Decca Records to master two specialist formats of the ‘official’ Royal Wedding recording which will then be released globally on May 5th as the official album of the event. Alchemy’s director of mastering Barry Grint has worked with Decca for ten years, and will be in charge of the mastering process. Grint has previously mastered the vinyl for the trooping of the colour, so is no stranger to Royal engagements.
“The trooping of the colour was a similar project in that it was a fast turnaround, but I am absolutely thrilled to be working on such a historic recording,” he explains. “As the Royal Wedding is such a time-sensitive project, I will be in charge of the mastering process for the vinyl and cassette tape formats as well as cutting the master lacquers and acetates for the vinyl release.” London based independent recording and post-production company Floating Earth is in charge of the recording, and within four hours of the event will have a CD Master edited and uploaded for digital download; and on the following Monday, Grint will master the double vinyl and create a master for cassette. The album will be produced by multi-Grammy-nominated producer Anna Barry, who is one of the world’s most renowned classical record producers.
“It’s an enormous responsibility,” she says. “The wedding means so much to millions of people all over the world; we have to capture every note and every nuance perfectly and have the recording ready within minutes of the ceremony.”
