UK: Andrew Kemble is to take up a new role leading Yamaha’s Emerging Markets Group, writes David Davies. Kemble (pictured) has been a pivotal figure in the development of Yamaha in the UK for more than three decades. His replacement as Yamaha Music UK (YMUK) managing director will be Megumu (Mike) Matsumoto, previously the deputy marketing director for Yamaha’s European Commercial Audio business.
The appointment of Matsumoto is the latest in a long line of developments that appears to bring a greater European perspective to Yamaha’s UK/ROI business. July 2007 saw Yamaha’s European holding company, Yamaha Music Holding Europe, take control of Yamaha in the UK following the acquisition of the Kemble family’s shareholding. Subsequently, last spring brought the news of a promotion for Nick Cook from general manager of Commercial Audio for Yamaha Music UK to pan-European marketing director Commercial Audio.
Kemble’s new position will find him developing Yamaha’s business in Eastern Europe, Greece and Turkey. He will also continue to serve as a vice-president of the senior management group at Yamaha’s European HQ.
“My new mission will be to develop a robust infrastructure in these developing markets so that Yamaha’s business can grow rapidly in the mid-term,” Kemble wrote in a letter to Yamaha dealers, adding that he would “hugely miss” the YMUK and Chappell teams, along with his many contacts and friends in the UK business.
Kemble’s successor, Matsumoto, has worked in Madrid, California, Hamburg and London during the past 18 years.
“I am sure that, under his leadership, our UK and Republic of Ireland operations will continue to thrive,” added Kemble.
