ITALY: With the 21st International Exhibition of Show Business, Installation & Broadcast Technology (SIB) - due to take place in Rimini Fiera from April 5th to 8th - now drawing near, details of exhibition features and the traditional, busy programme of side events and after-show sessions have begun to emerge. Among the notable happenings will be the debut of a new exhibition space, devised "to highlight the great potential offered by the integration of the most advanced technologies and leading edge design", reports David Davies.

Entitled 'Technology & Design: innovation places', the new space will be housed in Hall C5 and comprise four different environments - a trend-setting venue, conference hall, shop and residential area dedicated to relaxation. In each area, advanced audio, lighting and video products "will interact with indoor and outdoor spaces with unique ideas".

Other new features at SIB 2008 include the SIB Forum seminar series. Events will include a discussion with Andrea Taglia, head of audio for Andrea Bocelli, on the subject of 'wireless microphones and in-ear monitors: normative aspects and free frequencies', and a session led by Marco Mocellin about the transportation of digital audio.

SIB 2008 will also play host to the fourth edition of Sound Power, which will occupy an outdoor area alongside the West entrance. Devised to showcase the latest and most advanced sound reinforcement systems in action under outdoor working conditions, Sound Power 2000 will also incorporate an audio test featuring an exclusive piece of music performed by legendary jazz musicians Dave Weckl (drums) and John Patitucci (bass). The track was recorded by Bernie Kirsch - using a Neve series 8068 console, Studer A800 two-inch analogue tape machine, Altec-RCA-Royer ribbon microphones and tube microphones from AKG, Neumann and Sony - with the objective of capturing a sound as close to that produced during a live performance as possible.

An exclusive license from Sunlightsquare Records Ltd means that Sound Power 2008 will have the audio tracks at its disposal for the entire duration of the event, enabling the creation of live mixes. The last five minutes of each performance will be determined by manufacturers, who will have the opportunity to demonstrate the characteristics of their respective systems.
