UK: The O2 X Awards 2008 include an honour for business achievement in music, writes David Davies. Now in its fifth year, the O2 X Awards are designed to recognise the achievements of the "best of British entrepreneurs and small businesses". Submissions can be made through the dedicated web-page, via self-nomination or recommendation by others.

Amidst other categories for Fashion, Technology & Innovation and Food & Drink, the O2 X Award for Music will be given to "a business with vision and strong leadership that demonstrates an understanding of new, different and better ways of how we incorporate music in our lives."

The overall winner will receive a _10,000 prize and the prestigious title of 2008 O2 X Entrepreneur of the Year. Additionally, each national category winner (Food & Drink, Fashion, Technology & Innovation and Music) will receive business mentoring from an industry figure from their category and a profile in their category's media partner publication.

"The O2 X Awards are an opportunity to recognise and celebrate all the hard work of talented and inspirational small businesses in the UK today," said Simon Devonshire, head of SME Marketing at O2. "O2 is passionate about helping businesses achieve their goals, and the O2 X Awards provide an invaluable platform for businesses to highlight their achievements at a local and national level.

Electric Mastering in running for TEC Award

UK: The London facility has been acknowledged for its work on Feist's '1234', writes David Davies. A global chart hit in early 2008, '1234' - along with the rest of its parent album, The Reminder - was mastered by Mandy Parnell at Electric Mastering. In the wake of four Grammy nominations earlier this year, the song has now been nominated for a Technical Excellence & Creative Award in the Record Production/Single or Track Category at the TEC Awards.

The Conch Sound Awards 2008: register your nominations now

UK: The nomination process for The Conch Sound Awards 2008, organised by the UK Screen Association in association with Pinewood Studios, is now underway. Scheduled to take place at London's Mayfair Hotel on September 25th, The Conch Awards recognise "the outstanding contribution made by UK facilities, staff and projects to the art of audio post-production in films, TV and commercials," writes David Davies.

O2 and LN/AMG announce 'strategic alliance'

UK: The new arrangement will see the 11 AMG venues assume the name 'O2 Academy', writes David Davies. According to Telef_nica O2, Live Nation and Academy Music Group (AMG), the new alliance will "boost support for future music talent and enhance the music experience for fans visiting the venues as well as allow O2 to offer a number of benefits for its customers".
