THAILAND: Leading entertainment group Kantana has responded to the growing expansion and international prominence of Thailand's movie industry by constructing two new film mixing theatres and refurbishing an existing studio in the country. The work was carried out by Munro Acoustics India, which was established by Munro Acoustics and pro-audio distributor Pace in June 2006, reports David Davies.

The new studios are said to have been built by Munro to comply with all Dolby acoustic norms. Equipment in the new Studios 3 and 4 (not all of which was installed or provided by Munro) includes monitoring systems based around JBL 3632Ts and 8340As, Digidesign D-Command (Studio 3) and Pro-Control (Studio 4) consoles. Both studios are Pro Tools-based.

"Our regular clients consist of local and international clients and the demand is increasing each year," says Traithep Wongpaiboon, vice-president of sound production at Kantana. "Therefore, the new studios will be used to support the rising number of clients. With world class quality provided by state-of-the-art facilities under an acceptable price, we are certain that our studios are second to none."

"MA is gaining a reputation for consistently high-quality sound and acoustics in the post product world," says Andy Munro, managing director of Munro Acoustics. "We work closely with Dolby and others to add the same standards of sound reproduction expected in London or Hollywood to the emerging international film markets in Asia and elsewhere. Kantana were our first film client in south-east Asia and I wish them every success."

Munro Acoustics India was established last year to manage Munro's increasing number of major audio installation projects in the country. Its partner in the venture, Pace, has offices in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai, and distributes equipment for Yamaha, SSL and Dynaudio, among others.

"Having worked with Pace for many years I am pleased to have their expertise available on the ground in India," noted Munro at the time the new operation was announced. "We are now able to provide a complete turnkey service from design and acoustic treatment to building and technical install."
