GERMANY: Console companies, plug-in providers and more will ensure that it's not just loudspeaker manufacturers making the headlines in Frankfurt. Lab.gruppen, Lawo and countless other companies not necessarily beginning with the letter 'L' will exhibit new products at Prolight + Sound 09, which takes place from April 1 to 4.

PSN-e's necessarily rapid (and alphabetical) journey through some of the many non-loudspeaker-related highlights begins with Allen & Heath, which will unveil the XB-14 - the company's first new broadcast console for 15 years. Updates to the iLive-T Series compact digital mixing system will also be highlighted.

CharterOak Acoustic Devices will show the S700 Broadcast Microphone for the first time. Based on the S600, the broadcaster-oriented S700 employs CharterOak's series 700 type head amplifier with the S-3 type capsule used in the S600.

Edirol will unveil the latest addition to the new Virtual Studio line of hardware controllers. Following on from the flagship VS-700, the new product is described as "a more universal stablemate". Fellow Roland family member Roland Systems Group will show the RSS M-48 Live Personal Mixer and RSS S-4000D Splitter and Power Distributor, which are billed as an innovative solution for live and studio applications, and a "logical progression" for the present range of RSS stage sound control and mixing products.

Lab.gruppen will highlight the LM25 standalone digital loudspeaker processor, the PLM 14000 Powered Loudspeaker Management System and three new models in the FP+ Series (FP 14000, FP 9000 and FP 4000). The company will also exhibit new and enhanced versions of its NomadLink control and monitoring suite for the C Series and FP+ Series products.

Lawo will present its first Plug-in Collection, designed to enable users "to experience the benefits and audio quality" of Lawo's mc_ series on their own DAWs. According to Lawo, the new collection presents a range of high-quality work tools that do not require investment in expensive hardware.

Also on a plug-in tip, McDSP is to introduce Live Pack (pictured), a collection of plug-ins for the mixing of live performances. Due to begin shipping tomorrow (April 1), Live Pack includes Channel G Compact, Chrome Tone, DE555, FutzBox, MC2000, ML4000 and NF575. In addition to supporting Digidesign VENUE, the plug-ins also support TDM, RTAS and Audiosuite formats on Pro Tools HD, LE and M-Powered systems.

McDSP CEO Colin McDowell tells PSN-e: "McDSP has been known to Pro Tools engineers for over a decade. Bringing the product line to the Digidesign VENUE live sound production environment has been an ideal expansion of our business. We are pleased to deliver the McDSP Live Pack software bundle to this market, and look forward to growing the McDSP brand in live sound."

Out Board will feature the new TiMax2 SoundHub and TiMax Tracker in Frankfurt, where it will appear in conjunction with its recently-appointed German distributor, Pro Audio Technik. TiMax 2 SoundHub-R - optimised for mainstream AV and live performance installations - begins shipping this month, while TiMax2 SoundHub-S audio showcontrol version is set to follow this summer. Meanwhile, the new TiMax Tracker uses UWB radar tracking technology to make performers' audio and other effects automatically follow their position onstage in 3D space.

RME is to launch the new analogue multi-channel MADI and ADAT converter series. The M-32 AD offers a 32-channel AD-conversion to MADI and ADAT in reference quality, while the M-32 DA offers a nearly identical feature-set and enables a 32-channel high-end DA conversion.
