UK: Audio, lighting and ancillary products distributor Leisuretec has announced that founder and former CEO Mike Henden has returned to the helm following the surprise departure of managing director Nick Spalding. The company - whose audio portfolio includes AKG, Audio-Technica, DAS Audio, Sennheiser and Trantec - has also been joined by a new operations manager (Cliff Dounting) and logistics team leader (Bill Daniels), and is now recruiting further personnel to bolster its logistics team, writes David Davies.

The changes follow a successful 2007 for Leisuretec, during which it achieved total sales of _6.27m - an increase of around 4% on the previous year. The strategy for 2008, meanwhile, is said to be focused on delivering "a boost in [the] core business of sound, lighting and special effects products, and the distribution of Pioneer Pro DJ products." The Vestax brand is also set to remain a key contributor to the company's development.

"As would be expected, we are in the process of re-aligning our operation - however, we will not be recruiting anyone to the position of managing director. I am now heading up the business with the existing management team," said Mike Henden in a statement. (Henden declined PSN-e's request for an interview at this time.)

Praising the outgoing Spalding, Henden noted: "Nick and I have worked together for many years and I very much appreciate all of the positive things he has contributed during his time with the company. I understand that Nick intends to stay within the industry and I look forward to maintaining our good relationship in the future."

"Leisuretec Distribution is in great shape for the future and I am extremely proud to have had a significant involvement in its evolution to date, having held the role of managing director since May 2000," said Spalding in a statement. "However, as part of the continued evolution I am looking forward to facing new challenges. I am absolutely convinced Leisuretec will continue to provide a 'positive option' for its customers and suppliers alike, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the customers and suppliers of Leisuretec that have continued to support the success of the company to date. I also wish all of my former colleagues the very best success for the future."

Operating from headquarters in Leighton Buzzard, Leisuretec also provides distribution for Australian Monitor, Cloud, Denon Professional, Formula Sound, Lexicon, Nexo and RCF Audio, among other brands.
