Mexico named as the venue of the next AES International Latin American Convention

MEXICO: AES Mexico Section has announced that the 2008 International Latin American Convention will be held at the World Trade Center in Mexico City and be based around the theme of 'New Concepts in Audio'. International speakers already lined up to appear include Geoff Emerick, Ed Cherney and John Meyer, writes David Davies.

Neumann technical director Stephan Peus, Digidesign live sound market manager Robert Scovill, recording engineer Craig Brock, mastering engineer Andr_s Mayo, Meyer Sound's John McMahon and plug-in specialist Bobby Lombardi are among the other speakers scheduled to appear.

The convention programme - which will feature simultaneous translation to Spanish from English - will be complemented by an exhibition set to feature Neumann, Meyer Sound, Sennheiser, Midas, Shure, Dolby, SSL, Focusrite and Digidesign, among others.

"The AES Mexico Section is looking forward to hosting the 2008 AES Latin-American Convention and to meeting the Latin American and Spanish-speaking professional audio community from all over the world so that we can learn and raise the educational standards, as well as helping to grow the business

side and fortify the industry due to the technological and social changes we are experiencing," AES Mexico Section chair Francisco Miranda tells PSN-e. "Following the huge success of last year's Buenos Aires Convention, we have invited top industry professionals to give us their important lectures and

points of view under the subject 'New Concepts in Audio'_ With this event we hope to grow the AES Latin American membership and have a good time exchanging our ideas and, most importantly, meet old friends and make new ones."

The 2008 AES Latin American Convention will take place between April 27th and 29th.

APTX, Fraunhofer IIS, MAYAH, Optocore, Schoeps and Sennheiser were among the companies showcasing their latest projects at this year's show, which took place at the M.O.C in Munich from May 7-10.

AES 125, METAlliance and more

US: The first METAlliance Educator Summit will take place the day before AES 125 begins, writes David Davies. Scheduled for October 1 at the Conservatory of Music in San Francisco - the same city in which the 125th AES Convention will take place - the Summit will be hosted by the Music Engineering and Technology Alliance with a view to promoting quality in audio production and reproduction. Meanwhile, AES has revealed details of the Special Events programme - presided over by Chandra Lynn (pictured) - for its October gathering.

AES Europe - registration up on 2007

HOLLAND: AES executive director Roger Furness has confirmed to PSN-e that pre-registration for this year's European convention has now exceeded that for its 2007 predecessor. Neumann, MARIAN and Microtech Gefell are among the manufacturers planning to showcase new or recent product launches at the 2008 event, which takes place at the Amsterdam RAI from this Saturday onwards, writes David Davies.

A vibrant AES 07 attracts around 5,450 attendees

VIENNA: The busy aisles and positive atmosphere of the 122nd AES Convention - held at the Austria Center Vienna earlier this month - were complemented by an array of historic company or product anniversaries that served to reinforce the buoyant health of the business represented by the event. Appropriately enough for a host country that last year celebrated the quarter-millennium of Mozart, the septet of anniversaries collectively represented 250 years of pro-audio history, writes David Davies.
