Lab.gruppen acquires Lake brand

SWEDEN/US: Lab.gruppen has acquired the Dolby Lake Processor technology and Lake brand from Dolby Technologies, writes David Davies. The deal means that Lab.gruppen now owns the Lake trademarks and the exclusive rights for the use of Dolby Lake Processor (DLP) technology for both touring and permanent sound reinforcement markets.

Dolby to end Lake Processor production

US: Dolby has announced that it is to cease manufacturing the Dolby Lake Processor (DLP), writes David Davies. In a statement issued to PSNE, Dolby said that the move had been taken "in response to changing market conditions and to align with its strategic plans" - the latter generally interpreted as a departure from the live sound market. While new orders for the standalone speaker optimisation tool will no longer be accepted after September 30th, Dolby will carry on supporting its OEM licensing agreement with Lab.gruppen, which utilises DLP technology inside its PLM 10000Q Powered Loudspeaker Management system.

Greek Theatre opts for Lab.gruppen

US: Lab.gruppen PLM systems and FP+ Series amplifiers have been installed at a celebrated LA venue, writes David Davies. Situated at the edge of Griffith Park, close to Hollywood, the 5,800-seat open-air amphitheatre was installed with a combination of Lab.gruppen PLM Series Powered Loudspeaker Management systems and FP+ Series amplifiers by the venue's PA supplier and operator, Schubert Systems.

Jon Alkhagen – whose extensive communications experience includes stints at Allgon and Ascom Wireless Solutions – has been appointed to helm both Lab.gruppen and its subsidiary Lake brand.

New Swiss distributor for Lab.gruppen

GERMANY/SWITZERLAND: TC Electronic Switzerland has joined Lab.gruppen's stable of distributors, writes David Davies. Previously distributed in Switzerland by Audio Tech, Lab.gruppen has appointed TC Electronic Switzerland to represent its products in the country with effect from July 1st. Day-to-day operations for the brand are to be handled by Giovanni Dolci, who tells PSN-e that he expects to double Lab.gruppen's turnover in Switzerland within two years.

Riedel acquires RockNet developer

GERMANY: Riedel Communications has acquired Media Numerics, developer of the RockNet networking technology, writes David Davies. Headquartered in Hanau, Germany, Media Numerics is best-known for its development of RockNet, billed as a real-time, low latency audio distribution network suitable for tour and installed sound applications.
