FRANCE: Following July's announcement that InnovaSON had entered into receivership proceedings, it has emerged that recent months have witnessed a significant upturn in the Brittany-based console manufacturer's fortunes. "The spring was not very good, but the summer has turned out to be our best ever," InnovaSON's Xavier Pion tells David Davies.
As reported at the time by PSN-e (read the full story here) a temporary cash-flow problem in late spring left the company with no option but to call in the receivers. While hardly an encouraging development, the announcement ultimately inspired a show of confidence in the company's products from distributors around the world.
"We had a tremendous reaction from our distributors," recalls Xavier Pion, the manufacturer's sales and marketing director. "They said that they wanted to help and began to push their people on sales. As a result, since August we have had longer delivery times as we cannot provide everything that is on order right now_ We are much more relaxed [about the future] than we were a few months ago."
The company has also been boosted in recent months by the finalisation of three new distribution agreements. StudiTech (the Moscow area), Doscientos Veinte Sonido SL (Spain, pictured here with Pion) and Live Sound LDA (Portugal) have all signed up to make the considerable investments required to become an InnovaSON distributor, including the purchase of Sy48 and Sy80 demonstration consoles.
"It's good news when you are in [receivership] that people will trust you and trust the product," says Pion. "The message we have had back [from the new distributors] is 'we know the product, we know it sounds good and we know we can sell it.'"
Now back in what Pion describes as "a good cycle", InnovaSON has recently recorded new sales in the Czech Republic, Sweden and France, and is also currently experiencing a sales uplift in the US, particularly in the increasingly dynamic houses of worship market. "It's taken us a lot of time to get back on track there," he allows, "but business is really starting to grow now."
