US: Preliminary figures released on the final day of last month's InfoComm exhibition in Anaheim, California, have led the organisers to claim that the 2007 event constitutes "the biggest AV trade show in history". At least 31,300 visitors journeyed to a three-day exhibition - run in parallel to the annual conference - that highlighted new or recent launches from manufacturers including Soundcraft, Crown Audio and Onkyo Professional, reports David Davies.

New from Soundcraft were three FX additions to its multipurpose mixer range. Each of the latest models - the FX16ii, EFX and MFX - features no fewer than 32 Lexicon 24-bit digital effects and uses the same AudioDNA processor found in many Lexicon and DigiTech outboard products.

Crown took the opportunity to showcase the latest addition to the CDi Series of professional power amplifiers for installed sound applications. The launch of the CDi 4000 (pictured with the CDi 1000 and 2000), said Crown International's Stephen Morris, means that "system integrators now have an even broader range of available power, which extends to 1,200W per channel into four ohms, and 1,000W per channel for 70V distributed systems."

Audio-Technica US turned the spotlight on its SpectraPulse Ultra Wideband (UWB) wireless microphone system. Intended for a range of contractor and system integrator applications in the business, government and commercial markets, SpectraPulse utilises up to 14 simultaneous channels said to operate without RF competition, frequency hunting/coordination, white space issues or infringement from other wireless systems or radio sources.

For Onkyo Professional, InfoComm 07 provided the venue for the introduction of the company's first surround processor model for commercial and professional studio applications. The Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P is a THX-Ultra2 Certified 7.1-channel AV processor that provides HDMI 1.3a compatibility, 'upconversion' of all sources to HD video with Reon-VX HQV video processing, and an array of connection options. The rack-mounted unit is built around a toroidal transformer power supply with two separate power transformers for audio and video processing, and includes professional XLR balanced pre-outs for all channels.

An edition of InfoComm that saw a cluster of significant company announcements - including the news that D&M Professional is to distribute selected Boston Acoustics Inc professional loudspeakers to the sound contracting and fixed installation sectors - also brought the cheering results of a new study conducted by Acclaro Growth Partners on behalf of InfoComm International. Determining that audio-visual products and services comprise a $25bn industry in North America, the AV Industry Market Definition and Strategy Study went on to predict 11% growth in the AV industry over the next two years.
